EARTHQUAKE CLOUDS AND
SHORT TERM PREDICTION
- 3/8/2001 -

In 1998 or early 1999, a team of American and Canadian scientists measured plates' movement on the sound between Canada and Washington State, USA by two ships, and predicted a M9 earthquake would occur there soon. Unfortunately, that prediction was far overdue. Moreover, a M6.8 happened at 47.15N and 122.72W (17.6 km from Olympia or 57.5 km from Seattle) Washington State at 18:54 on Feb. 28, 2001, but no seismologist forecast it. Therefore, some pessimistic scientists might claim that the USGS failed to predict earthquakes, so predicting earthquakes is impossible. Thus, I would like to discuss my Seattle earthquake prediction. According to the internet time recorder, at 9:14 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2001, I revealed Satellite Image 20010226 18:30 [1], and predicted that an impending earthquake of magnitude ">=5" would occur in "Canada and Washington State" to the Public in our homepage. At 21:57 on Feb. 27, I received an email message from David in Canada to ask me more information about this prediction [A]. Moreover, my daily hit record shows that from 9:14, Feb. 27 to 18:54, Feb. 28, our homepage got more than1, 000 direct hits (not including hits by links), which means that there are many witnesses, including some officers of the American government. Furthermore, after the earthquake, I received admiration immediately from those witnesses [B, C]. Pessimistic scientists may deny this prediction because it does not have a signature from the USGS, but I do not think so because there is neither a definition nor a rule that a prediction must be signed by the USGS. However, there is a definition: "To see or describe (a future happening) in advance as a result of knowledge, experience, reason, etc." in Longman Dictionary. According to this definition, my Seattle earthquake prediction is legal. In addition, I made19 successful predictions [2] signed by the USGS before April 8,1998, one of which even was reported to the LA Times [3], but both some American experts and two staff writers of the LA Times claimed, "There was little evidence to support it or any other prediction theory" and "none have worked in practice"[D]. Therefore, the problem is not due to "none have worked in practice", but their arrogance. To persuade those earthquake experts, I would like to ask them whether or not they can reply my two "Yes or No" questions [4]. Since they are authorities and have power to do what they want to do, they should do much better than what I did. Now, I would like to propose a question about the Plates Theory. According to the Plate Chart of the USGS [5], the 6.8 earthquake should occur along San Andreas Fault or others, marked by arrows, because the two plates hit each other there. However, the 6.8 earthquake rejected their theory. It happened in Seattle where a plate might hit itself . Moreover, the chart does not explain why the 6.8 earthquake did not happen in 1998, and 1999 when the USGS made a prediction, but on Feb. 28, 2001 when the USGS did not issue a prediction . In fact, if the Plates Theory were a truth, it would indicate both the time and the location exactly. By contrast, I would like to show more details of my theory. Image 20010224 18:30 [6], 20010225 18:30 [7], and 20010226 18:30 [1], indicated how the heat of the ocean near the epicenter increased rapidly, Therefore, they implied a large impending earthquake there soon, which explains both the location and the time especially. What I did not know is how soon the earthquake would appear. However, it is just due to infrequent data (one every 3~9 hours), a lack of a financial support, and my poor experience, not due to my theory. Finally, I would still like to persuade those authorities that they have freedom to keep their wrong view, but they should give me a powerful financial support to save people in earthquake danger. I believe in that many people died in devastating earthquakes just due to authorities' incorrect opinion and their common studies. |
